March was a tough one.....

I did not manage to complete my proposed March challenge of learning a bit of sign language each day.  After finishing the February challenge late, I just lost motivation/track of what I was supposed to be doing.  Life got in the way.  I'm going to try and make that one up at a later date, or just give myself some grace and move on to the next challenge.  I definitely am finding that not doing something (like giving up social media) is actually a lot easier than doing something new.

Finished February Challenge - just 8 days late

I finally got through all the Black History Month topics on the Discover Our Glory page.  I learned a lot - about events, people, and movements I was either fully unaware of or had heard about in passing, but definitely didn't know as much as about as I should have.  I'm really glad I did this and hope to review it each year and add more to the list and to my knowledge.   Black History Month

Second day in

Not too bad. I am realizing I am thinking about what I might be missing a lot. It was like my connection to the world and other people. And it’s not so much what other people are doing — although that’s a little of it — it’s more about what info I might be missing out on. What posts someone might be making on the school family groups or the local neighborhood groups. The “insider” info. We’re supposed to have snow tonite into tomorrow and it seemed likely that school would be cancelled. Now I know that the info would be posted to the school county website but I still texted a neighbor to let me know if she heard anything since I knew that the news would make it to Facebook sooner. Now I see how ridiculous that was but in the moment I could not stand to think I might miss out on hearing about it sooner rather than later. 🤦‍♀️ It’s such a crutch. And I hadn’t realized just how much. It was a one stop shop. Which is kind of nice but the need to know “right now!” mentality is kind of scar

2022 - My Year of 30-day Challenges

I have been thinking about making some sort of New Year's Resolution for the coming year and just couldn't think of something that really spoke to me or something that I really wanted to focus on for a whole year.  But then the idea came to me about doing a social media detox for a month, and then that led me to think about doing a different 30-day challenge for each month of next year.  Now that I could get behind!  Something new to focus on for each month.  I could do something new for 30-days.  And each month would be something new to try and learn.  I'm keeping track in another document, but here's my plan for the year: January - 30 days of social media detox February - 30 days of learning about Black History March - 30 days of learning ASL April - 30 days of meditation May - 30 days of TED talks June - 30 days of 10,000 steps July - 30 days of playing piano  August - 30 days of inspirational articles  September - 30 days of gratitude journaling October - 30 days of
